“STEWARDSHIP” - A Strategy For Turning the 1%s Tactical Advantage Into A Future Democratic Institution They Cannot Defeat
It is not enough to establish a branch of government by Constitutional description and then omit the creation of it’s physical presence as a legitimate, operational institution. No less than the Congress, the White House or the Federal Courthouses of the United States, First-Amendment Zones, as the means and practice of the people’s right to assemble, are inoperative institutions unless they are provided with adequate facilities for the performance and discharge of their responsibilities. As we have observed in the attempt by Occupy to establish such facilities (its ‘occupy zones’), this provision cannot be deferred to the external definitions and management by any other branch of government. The People’s House, in the form of such First Amendment Zones in every city in America, is an essential part of the balance of powers required to operate a modern, democratic state. Without it, ‘democracy’ can serve little but the pale shadow of its intended purpose; a whispered and unfulfilled ‘wish’ for self-governance.
